A Matter of Personality, Eric Burwell, Scott Grow, Camilla Quinn and Sean Slattery. If personality is defined as a set of distinctive traits and characteristics, then it certainly can serve as a descriptor of art. The title comes from a statement made by Marcel Duchamp, a perceptive observer and seminal artist who stated, “Art is all a matter of personality.” Whether the art establishes its own personality or it is reflective of the personality of the maker, the four artists whose work is part of this exhibition, offer a glimpse into the distinctive nature of their art. Valley of Faces: Pareidolia in the Basin and Range, group exhibition with Matthew Couper, Steve D. Craft, Natalie Delgado, Amanda Farrar, Jeannie Hua Ferguson, Myron Hensel, Bekah Just, Angee Jackson, Checko Salgado, Sean Slattery, Greg Telles, Justin-Aaron Velasco. Valley of Faces is located in the Basin and Range National Monument in the portion of the monument east of Highway 318. Hosted by the Friends of Basin and Range National Monument. Tested Ground, Andreana Donahue, Alexa Hoyer, Joan Linder, Jenny Odell, Nicolas Shake at the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art. a major artistic exploration of the ways in which our civilization uses the land around us for work, recreation, and waste disposal. Paying special attention to the region surrounding Las Vegas, five American and international artists use a variety of media to probe a relationship we sometimes take for granted. May 26-September 16.

Play On Gary, Play On, curated by D.K. Sole in the West Gallery at the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art, a meditation on the point in time between an action being anticipated and the moment when it is carried out. Imaginatively it reinterprets the delay through a series of objects from the Barrick's Collection. May 26-September 16.

Special performance of They Snowing and Pine Tree, two cherished choreographies by American modern dance icon Erick Hawkins at the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art. Students from the UNLV Department of Dance will perform in Hawkins’ original costumes, courtesy of department chair Louis Kavouras and the Erick Hawkins West Institute. Tilting The Basin: Contemporary Art of Nevada in Las Vegas. The Art Museum at Symphony Park (AMSP), the group advancing a future art museum in Las Vegas, and Reno-based Nevada Museum of Art, have partnered to present an exhibition of over thirty artists showcasing the vibrant creative fabric binding the Silver State in a downtown Las Vegas pop-up gallery. Josh Azzarella Screening Program at the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art. Azzarella creates videos and photographs that explore the power of context in the authorship of memory, oftentimes utilizing seminal moments in pop culture and news media to create accessible confrontations with historiography. Screenings occur every Thursday (4-7 p.m.) and Saturday (1 p.m. and 3 p.m.), and by appointment in the Barrick Museum Auditorium. Recurring dates: April 1, 8, and 15.

Panel Discussion: Artist As Culture Producer, Sharon Louden returns to Las Vegas for her second book tour and a panel discussion at the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art on April 10 at 7PM. With Las Vegas artists Andreana Donahue, Justin Favela and Wendy Kveck and New York-based artist Clarity Haynes. Moderated by the Barrick's Alisha Kerlin. Book signing and reception follow. Los Angeles Valley College Art Gallery call for submissions for solo and group exhibitions for the 2018-19 academic year. Deadline June 5. More information here.
Habitable Spaces is thrilled to invite applications to their second official open-call residency program. Artists, builders and makers are encouraged to submit a project proposal for a 3-month stay at Habitable Spaces this fall (October-December, flexible). The successful applicant will be able to pursue a project of their own design, which contributes to our community farm of artists, WWOOFers, other volunteers, and the wider local area of Kingsbury, Texas. If you, a group, or collective wish to pursue this opportunity then please read the information below and submit an application using our online form. Applications are due on June 15th, with notification by July 15.

Catherine Borg and Lake Newton are showing video work in the screening On Demand, part of the second annual Light City Baltimore festival, running from March 31 through April 8 in the Inner Harbor and throughout the city. The evening celebration of light and its companion series of daytime innovation conferences — the Labs@LightCity — will prominently feature UMBC faculty, staff, students and alumni as artists and thought leaders.
