Disconnected: the Creation of an American Phenomenon, at the Donna Beam Fine Art Gallery, June 24 - August 8. Opening June 24, 6-9PM. Lee Cannarozzo curates an exhibition of temporary installations based around artifacts from the Neon Museum.

KUSO Project at the Donna Beam Fine Art Gallery August 22-September 30. KUSO Project presents the artwork of 12 young Taiwanese artists. Kuso is the term used in East Asia for the Internet culture that generally includes all types of camp and parody. This exhibition explores the cultural phenomenon of today's online world through the creative vitality of a young generation. The show include painting, photography, sculpture, digital work, video, installation, and an interactive installation. It is presented in association with the Cultural Ministry of Taiwan and Hungkuang University.

In Transition: Female Figurines from the Michael C. and Mannetta Braunstein Collection. This exhibition focuses on the female figurine, specifically those forms depicting the transition from maidenhood to motherhood. At the Marjorie Barrick Museum. 

Last month Las Vegas learned the sad news of the closing of The Beat Coffeehouse and the relocation of Emergency Arts in the coming months (read the Las Vegas Weekly article here). We're grateful for the opportunities, experiences and community that Jennifer and Michael Cornthwaite created in that space and in downtown, Las Vegas. Looking forward to their future collaborations and visiting Emergency Arts as it transitions into its new home upstairs at the corner of Fremont and Sixth Street.

With the changes at Emergency Arts, Satellite Contemporary Gallery is temporarily? closing its doors. Boldly founded in Las Vegas ("with it's wild and unruly reputation, we have found Las Vegas to be the perfect fit for our ambitions")  by Flagstaff artists and educators Nicole Langille, Christopher Kane Taylor and Dennis K. McGinnis, Jared Jelsing (San Francisco), and later joined by Las Vegas' D.K. Sole, the gallery featured the work of local, national and international artists including Sheilah Wilson, Bridget Mullen, Travis Iurato and Jim White. We hope to see the gallery re-open its doors in a new downtown Las Vegas location sometime in the near future.

Call for Art

The College of Southern Nevada, Department of Fine Arts, Art & Art History Program is currently accepting exhibition proposals for its 2017 - 2018 Exhibition Season for the College’s Fine Arts Gallery and Artspace Gallery. Solo and group exhibitions of all media and genre will be considered. The deadline for proposals is September 15. Full prospectus here.

The Neon Museum invites qualified Nevada artists to submit proposals for participation in the annual Nevada Artist Residency. A partnership between the Neon Museum and the UNLV Marjorie Barrick Museum, the residency calls for working artists, writers or poets to create work inspired by the Neon Museum’s sign collection. Deadline August 18. Full details here. 

Surface Design Associationmember and non-member artists working in or inspired by fiber arts and/or textile media are invited to submit work for a juried issue of the Surface Design Journal entitled Crafting Community: SDA Inaugural International Exhibition in Print. Selected work will appear in print in the winter 2016 issue of the Surface Design Journal (publication date December 23, 2016). Deadline September 15.Link to call here.

Tilting The Basin: Contemporary Art of Nevada. Nevada Museum of Art Curatorial Director and Curator of Contemporary Art JoAnne Northrup has partnered with Las Vegas-based art advisor Michele Quinn to co-curate Tilting the Basin: Contemporary Art of Nevada.  The exhibition will be reprised in Las Vegas in 2017 at a venue to be determined.
