What are you working on now? Marc Dombrosky

What are you working on now? is a new Settlers + Nomads series where we ask artists what they are making and thinking about in and outside the studio.

Marc Dombrosky

Last year I took hundreds of loose sheets of found paper that I've spent years overwriting with matching embroidery thread and started sequencing them into boxed portfolio sets, organized loosely around certain themes. These are lost notes, crumpled drawings, scribbled memos, anything with handwriting really, and my most recent work (alongside continually adding to the sets with new embroidery/overwriting) has been to transcribe all of the writing from these sheets, building a parallel text; a written work fixed into a discrete form, perhaps different from the experience of sorting through loose sheets trying to find common threads. Maybe a companion then, something mirroring or skewing the random order?

The photographs I'm sharing here are images that were all shot in southwestern Michigan, most within about a mile of our home. They are some of the sites and objects I pass and think about when I'm writing, reading, sewing, and sorting these sets. These images are another layer, a back story perhaps.
